Room acoustics correction

Room acoustics correction

You spent thousands of dollars for High-End audio equipment, but it still doesn’t sound good? It’s probably because the acoustics parameters of your listening room probably aren’t very good. Basically they are not good in any real-world living room (unless you live in a concert hall).
Instead of spending  more money on better power-supplies and expensive cables, start by analyzing the room acoustics situation. With the HiFiBerry Mic and HiFiBerryOS or REW, you can measure several aspects of the acoustics performance in your listening room to guide you in getting the most out of your gear.

Based on spectrum reports, you can start improving your listening room with simple measures to help bring out the best in your equipment. Often, it’s just a matter of having to move speakers or furniture around, add absorbers or diffussrs, modify your listening position, or even add a subwoofer.  However, your room dimensions, home decor (or living partner) might not allow those options.  If you’re in the situation where those options are not possible – or you want to further improve the situation, active equalization such as found in our DAC+DSP or BeoCreate might help. Informed by the software tests, you can calculate correction filters with REW and use a HiFiBerry DSP board to implement these filters to smooth out the bumps. While equalization isn’t a “magic bullet”, it can be one part of a sophisticated and comprehensive acoustics improvements.
