How to write an image file onto a SD card

Windows

  1. Download and install Win32DiskImager.
  2. Connect a micro SD card to your computer.
    – Use a micro SD adaptor to connect the card to a SD card slot.

    – Use a USB reader if your computer doesn’t have a built in one.
  3. Right click the Win32DiskImager icon and select Run as administrator.
  4. Click the icon in the Image file section and browse your hard drive to find a previously downloaded image.
  5. Select your SD card from the Device drop-down list.
  6. Click Write.
  7. Confirm the operation.
  8. Once the process is complete…

    …remove the micro SD card, pop it into your Pi and power it on.

Mac OSX

  1. Download and start the Pi Filler.
  2. Browse your hard drive to find a previously downloaded image file.
  3. Connect a SD card to your MAC…
  4. …and click Continue.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Click Erase SD Card.
  7. Provide password and click OK to proceed.
  8. Click Quit and remove the SD card.
  9. Connect the card to your Rasbperry Pi and power it on.
