Go symmetrical!

Some of the HiFiBerry DAC+ users have asked us if there isn’t a version with a symmetrical XLR output. There wasn’t one – until today. Now the new DAC+ XLR is available in our online shop. Using a symmetrical XLR output instead of a asymmetrical RCA output offers some advantages:

  • Noise immunity is improved, especially when using long cables.
If your amplifier is only 1 or 2 meters away from the DAC+, an RCA connection is totally fine. However, if you need to run 10-20 meter cables between the DAC+ and the amplifier, using XLR instead of RCA can reduce noise quite a lot.
  • You can use high-quality studio and PA equipment.
PA equipment often offers great value for small budgets. Especially if you’re looking for very powerful amplifier, stage equipment often can offer more output power for the same price. These equipment might not look as nice as home audio equipment. However, it often offers a lot of value for your money.
