Preview: HiFiBerry Amp

amp-proto

Some of our readers might already know that we are also working on an amplifier for the Raspberry Pi. We don’t think small 2W amplifiers are a good choice even for simple tasks like an audio player for your kitchen. However, we wanted to create an amplifier that is not bigger than the Raspberry Pi itself. Here is our first prototype. We are satisfied with our initial listening tests.

Here are some of the features:

  • 2x25W, works well with 4 Ohm speakers
  • parametric equalizer
  • volume and equalizer can be controlled from the Raspberry Pi by software
  • only one power supply for both amplifier and Raspberry Pi
  • high quality output filter for best sound

However, there is still a lot of work to do. The final amp will look a bit different than on the picture. Drivers has to be developed. Therefore we can’t tell you today when we will start selling it. We plan a test with a very limited number of people. You want to stay informed about the HiFiBerry Amp? Join our mailing list.
